[ARCHIVED] CITY OF HUBER HEIGHTS RECEIVES 31ST CONSECTUTIVE NATIONAL AWARD FOR FINANCIAL REPORTING EXCELLENCE

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the City of Huber Heights the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2023.

This prestigious award is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

This year’s award marks the 31st consecutive year Huber Heights has received this honor - an especially remarkable milestone given the extraordinary challenges the City faced in 2023. A significant cyber-attack impacted municipal systems and required the Finance Department to process all financial transactions manually for an extended period. Despite these obstacles, the department maintained an exceptional level of accuracy, transparency, and accountability.

“We are incredibly proud to earn this recognition again,” said City Manager John Russell. “Even in the face of adversity, our Finance Department exemplified resilience and professionalism. Their ability to uphold the highest standards under difficult circumstances speaks volumes about their integrity and commitment to the public.”

James Bell, Director of Finance for the City of Huber Heights, added, “Receiving this award for the 31st consecutive year is a true testament to the dedication of our entire team. In 2023, we were tested like never before - but we never lost sight of our responsibility to the residents of Huber Heights. This award honors not just our technical compliance, but our perseverance, transparency, and service to the public.”

The Certificate of Achievement is awarded following a rigorous review by an impartial panel of GFOA experts. The ACFR must meet stringent standards for clarity, full disclosure, and effective communication of financial information.
