Ohio EPA PFAS Findings (2020)
Huber Heights is NOT one of the regional water systems containing the "Forever Chemicals" as confirmed by Ohio EPA testing.
There has been a recent news article indicating some "Forever Chemicals", actually known as Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were detected in 24 water systems within the region. Huber Heights Water system was NOT one of those systems, as confirmed by testing by the Ohio EPA.
The City of Huber Heights continues a high priority and focus on providing a safe, healthy water system for the community. Our partner/operator, Veolia, conducts many safety tests on a regular basis and uses innovative practices to properly manage our water system to stay ahead of and above standards put forth by Ohio EPA. This is another case where the Huber Heights water system has shown to be safe, healthy and within all required compliance levels in accordance to Ohio EPA and our own high standards.
Specific to PFAS and related to the recent media publication, the Ohio EPA has confirmed in writing that no PFAS were detected in Huber Heights Water as noted below.
Letter Sent to Huber Heights From Ohio EPA:
Ohio's Statewide PFAS Action Plan for Drinking Water calls for Ohio EPA to gather data from public water systems statewide to determine if PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are present in drinking water. Under this plan, your water system was sampled for 6 individual PFAS contaminants: PFOA, PFOS, GenX, PFBS, PFHxS, and PFNA. PFAS were not detected in samples collected from your public water system. All results were below the reporting limit. To view and download your systems data, please go to the State of Ohio PFAS Action Plan Interactive Dashboard and Map. You may view your system under the Test Results tab or you may download results using the Click to Download Data link in the upper right hand corner and then clicking on the "data tab". Results will be posted within five business days.
All water systems are encouraged to revise and implement a source water protection plan as a critical part of their Asset Management Program to ensure your vital water source remains protected from future emerging contaminants and other threats. All water systems are encouraged to communicate results to their customers as soon as possible. Community public water systems are reminded to include their results in their 2020 CCR. Ohio EPA has developed a PWS Toolkit for PFAS and resources are available on Ohio's EPA website. For more information, please visit Ohio's EPA website.
